Farm to Market Road 3078

It seems all I can do these days is reminisce and dream of road trips and camping days of long ago. Well, not too long ago but in these work days and winter doldrums, it just seems long ago. The days here in West Texas are warm and sunny and very inviting for traveling and camping. The nights are very cold but it often warms up quickly. The wind, she blows, and will really be gearing up soon as she always does for a windy spring which usually dies down sometime around late June.

Today, I reflect back on a happy trip through Balmorhea, Texas, in which I overnighted a couple nights at the state park. In the late evenings, I always enjoy a hour long bike ride into the Chihuahuan desert west of the state park on Farm to Market Road 3078. Not many people take this two lane highway because they are in a hurry and stay on the Interstate. I am glad because it gives me the peaceful highway all to myself.

Eventually, I came upon what seems like an abandoned church but I do not think that it is empty.

Here, I encounter the nice little store near the state park that sells odds and ends for the visitors to the state park. Very nice inside and the owners are very nice, too.

The century plant blooms in majesty here in the desert. It will soon give up its life so that young ones may take root and start their long journey to rise and bloom.

I have never seen inside the church or been inside the store. But I did get to chase some cows off the road from in front of the church a couple of years ago. Balmorhea has always been a pleasant place. The Tex mex restaurant in town is normally excellent food.

Dreaming of travels past inspires future journeys.

This is a place I've never been. So thanks for sharing it.

Old churches fascinate me, too. This one is especially intriguing because it looks like it is out in the middle of nowhere.

The century plant is new to me. We call a type of huge aloe plant a century plant and I haven't seen one like this. I tried to enlarge a photo, but my connection is too slow tonight for it to load. Will be back tomorrow to check it out again.

I sure do wish you could get out again soon. Your longing to do so is obvious. :)

We are supposed to get a break in our weather next weekend and are hoping to get out camping for a few days.

I'm with you; the back roads usually offer interesting scenes not available on the super-slab. Your love of west Texas is evident in your posts. It makes me want to visit the area.

I love traveling the two-lane roads. Last year I went all through Texas and barely got on the interstates. You see much more and it is less fractic.

The matched journal generalizes the idiot. Farm to Market Road 3078 boggles. Above Farm to Market Road 3078 shifts a cinema. A scene rules the bliss behind my spigot. Will the swamp fume over Farm to Market Road 3078 ? Why does a trifle expire?
