The brilliant sun, gentle breeze, and warm West Texas temperatures this afternoon enticed me to take about a 5 mile walk around the perimeter of the North Concho River. It was a spectacular day to get out and just explore some country that I had never seen before.
Granted, the winter vegetation is all either gone now or brown and not very pretty but it did not matter to me because just being outdoors was all the medicine I needed. There were a few other folks out today just enjoying the same thing.
The river is almost bone dry now and has been for a while. With only about 40% of our normal precipitation this year, it has been a devastating time for everyone including the wildlife and plants. We are hopeful that 2012 will bring all of the drought stricken areas some much needed relief. December has been encouraging with better than average precipitation. There was much wildlife seen during my hike this afternoon. During about a couple of hours, I saw armadillo, deer, several kinds of birds, turtles, frogs, horses and prairie dogs.

A beautiful day to get outdoors and soak up some sunshine recreation. Vitamin D is always good for what ails you!

I enjoyed your walk. :)
I'm so glad you got some rain. I hope the worst of the drought is over.
