It has been a long while since I have been camping and hiking in Big Bend National Park. Other things get in the way of taking care of important things like camping there in one of my favorite places. I think you know what I mean because sometimes it happens to you. So, when I can't go, I go through my old files and photos which help make me even more homesick for the beautiful desert mountains called the Chisos.
I really enjoy the campground there in the Basin. It is a perfect home base for taking off in any direction to explore and enjoy nature at its finest. I guess one of the best hikes in Texas is always the South Rim loop trail in the high country. And that brings me to these photos of a trip I made long ago.
The beautiful Chisos Mountains.
I hope this trail photo inspires you to get up and get outside. Take a walk.
A welcome trail sign sets me straight on my path.
Hiking by myself and just enjoying the green landscape and wildflowers along the trail, I soaked up all the beauty that I could. I am no flower photographer, but I still enjoy snapping photos with my cheap camera to help me remember. My aimless mind forgets things all the time and so these photos help me remember a wonderful hike long ago.
"Don't wait! Tomorrow starts now!", right Barney?
the photos are clcikable
Casa Grande stands tall above the Chisos Basin.
One of my goals for the new year is to try and get out more and more often and do the things like I have shown here. I am a big believer in that being in the outdoors is good medicine. Even if you are not ailing or anything, the outdoors is still good for the soul, spirit, mind, body, attitude, etc. One hike that is on my list is to hike the new Emory Peak trail here in Big Bend. I've hiked it many times over the years but I have not been on the new trail. Maybe this is the year for me.
I hope you can get out as often as you want and deserve this year. Best wishes to you and yours for a happy, prosperous and most especially, a healthy 2012. You deserve to be a happy camper.
Thanks for checking into my stories.

Yes, Rick you are correct. I hope to head to the area after Jan. 23, 2012. Hopefully my knee will allow some hiking this year. Bicycle riding is a definite planned endeavor.
Thanks for taking us hiking in Big Bend, where I haven't been yet. I love to return to my favorite hiking haunts via photos when I can't get there any other way. May you follow many trails old and new in the coming year.
Beautiful photos! I just visited Big Bend National Park for the first time over the New Year holiday, and was awed by the Basin. It was like an island in the desert. Santa Elena Canyon also marveled me. Thank you for sharing. Enjoying reading your blog :) Happy Trails!
