Community Garden

Driving around town this afternoon I encountered a large sign:

"Garden of Eden"

A community garden that has 38 large garden plots that is tilled, fertilized, planted, watered, cared for and harvested by local citizens who want to take part in helping provide home grown vegetables for their own tables and for those who may not have enough of their own food.

The garden is managed by a local church organization, Rust Street Ministries, here in San Angelo. They are a non-denominational church and they run a very well organized and structured community garden. Of course today during my visit, winter was very much in charge of the place but even then I could see the potential of the garden. Over 1.5 acres is set aside for the project and anyone and everyone is welcome to pitch in and partake in the rewards of good old fashioned hard work that even can take us back to the roots of our pioneer ancestors.

Nice. I so like the idea of community gardens. We have one here also. Unfortunately, I'm working in the summer and, in general, National Parks frown on gardening.

Love it! Why did people stop planting Victory Gardens anyway?
