Buckhorn Lake Resort, TX

This weekend marks the 8th anniversary of my first camping trip with my new travel trailer. Up until this point my camping trips were always tent or sleeping in the cab of my pickup. Those were excellent trips filled with unforgettable times with friends and the outdoors. However, the time had come for a step up in convenience that would allow me extended time camping and traveling. Yes, I had evolved into a wimp.

On my first camper trip, I wanted some place to go that would help me work out any kinks and issues with my brand new camper and I wanted it to be a low stress trip. Learning all the ins and outs of my camper and learning to tow would be enough on my travel plate without having to deal with other problems that may compound the trip.

So, I decided to go to Buckhorn Lake RV Resort near Kerrville, Texas. During this first weekend in 2003, it was great to get out of town and to enjoy the Texas hill country. The camper towed very well and I was enjoying everything about the trip. I pulled in to the resort and was greeted just like you would like to be greeted by a very friendly and accommodating host inside the gift store. This place is spectacular and comfortable in every manner. Their prices were comfortable for me and they set me up in a pull through in the adult section of the campground. There were several other campers that weekend and it didn't take long before I got accustomed to that campers are the friendliest people. This campground is very kid friendly, too, with pools and playgrounds all spread out the place.

One thing that keeps me coming back to Buckhorn, besides all the amenities, is to check on the continued expansion of their RV homes that are across the bridge in the resort. These places are where folks buy/lease these nice properties like snowbirds perhaps that tend to spend their winters here or whenever they like.

Yes, I know I could never afford such a nice place but it is fun to dream about.

Even though I was not supposed to be driving through the neighborhood, I was careful not to be an unwelcome guest. I drove slowly and waved to folks that smiled and waved back.

Yes, I wouldn't mind waking up to such a nice view every morning here in the Texas hill country.

I don't know that I would want a flowing stream next to my house but it sure looks nice from here.
Looks like Mayberry, RV style to me: peaceful and contentment.

Buckhorn is a really nice place to set up camp for a while or even put down roots. I like that it is near town but not too near. From my experience here, Buckhorn hospitality is second to none.
Here are a few Internet photos of this resort that I smuggled from Google images:

I've heard a lot of RVers praise Buckhorn. I sort of wish I had gone there when I still had an RV, and I'll probably never have a reason to visit the Hill Country now. Nice pictures.

Very pretty but looks a little out of my league/budget.

We stayed there a couple of years ago while attending a RV Dreams rally. Your pictures are wonderful and it brought back some great memories. We snuck back there to check out the homes too. It's a great place and their monthly rates were reasonable. Enjoy your new camper.
