Bald Eagle Creek Campground

Today, I took a leisurely drive to the north part of our local state park, San Angelo State Park. I wanted to check out their Bald Eagle Creek campground area for a possible destination for my Thanksgiving break. It was only a 15 mile drive but distance is not necessarily what make a vacation for me; it is nature, peace, quiet, serenity and most importantly: hookups! :)

The volunteer attendant on duty was one of those very friendly and helpful folks who could not have been more congenial and helpful. I wish some of the full time paid staff would take a few lessons from some volunteers on how to be so helpful.

I drove around the campground areas and was pleased to see they were being well used this weekend. It was perfect camping weather and people were out enjoying nature in this out of the way state park of West Texas. There were several widely spaced sites with electric and water hookups. And then there were many other primitive sites that were available for those needing only the basics.

Maybe Thanksgiving will bring some folks together at these lonely spaces.

Lots of huge pecan trees with golden leaves gave the whole setting a wonderful feel for autumn and outdoors. Even though the trails were closed this weekend, I still managed to take a stroll around the perimeter of the camping and recreational areas.

This is a popular equestrian park and they have a special campground with and without hookups just for those folks who bring their horses. The sites each have their own horse corrals. Also, this park is a popular bicycling park with lots of challenging and easy dirt trails for these hardy bicyclists. Although the lake in the state park is bone dry, the setting for the whole area is a treasure trove of great outdoor hobbies. You can't go wrong by taking a visit to San Angelo State Park.

I also found that section to be very nice when I toured it a couple of years ago.
